WELCOME TO PASTOR DR. CARLOTTA'S COUNSELING CENTER.

The dictionary defines divination as, "the practice of attempting to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means." God's Word goes a step further by showing that people who divine are controlled or possessed by supernatural spirits which enable them to receive information beyond the human realm at a particular time. God's prophets receive their divine revelation by the Holy Spirit. On the other side of the spectrum are demonic spirits feeding information to fortunetellers and sorcerers.

PAUL

Luke tells us of such a case in the book of Acts. "And it came to pass as we want to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her master much gain by soothsaying: the same followed Paul and us, and cried saying, these men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour." Acts 16:16-18.

GOD WANTS YOU!

It also reveals that God wants to work through His Children AGAINST the power of evil. The battle of the Universe is God against the devil, Good against evil and we must choose which side we prefer. It is impossible to dabble with both Powers at the same time! God's Word thunders down through the ages, "...come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord...for what fellowship hath righteous with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" II Corinthians 6:17,14.

One of the problems today is that many Christians are unaware of where the dividing line is between the things of God and Satan's territory. When God's people stray into those areas that appear harmless but in reality are demonic, it creates all kind of havoc in their spiritual lives.

Let's begin by showing what we must stay clear of as far as divination is concerned so we can live the kind of life that pleases God.

MECHANICAL PROPS

The spirit of divination often makes use of mechanical props such as sand, bones, entrails of a sacrifice, tea leaves, tarot card, palm reading, horoscopes, lumps on the head,Ouija boards, planchet, crystal balls, occult computer games, so-called healing through charms or magic, levitation, water witching, automatic writing, occult literature or objects, hand writing analysis and drugs, etc... and what does God say about these things?

GOD SAYS....

"Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to you enchanters, nor to your sorcerers which speaks unto you, saying, ye shall not serve the King of Babylon: For they prophesy a lie unto you to remove you far from their land;" Jeremiah 27:9-10. "And they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, even two calves and made a grove and worshipped all the host of heave, and served Ba'al. And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger" II Kings 17:17.

WHY GOD HATES DIVINATION

God hates divination because it leads people to seek satanic intelligence for guidance in their lives instead of God and His Word. We cannot mix the guidance of the Holy Spirit with that of Satan without getting into problems. Millions of people in our world are doing just that when they consult their horoscopes instead of God's Word for their daily directions.

HOROSCOPES

When you pin many of these people down they get a silly little grin on their face and quickly tell you it is only a harmless game. One person told me that nobody really gets too serious about horoscopes. It's just fun to see if anything comes true. Later, I found that it was a much more serious problem area in their life than "just fun." A few years ago I picked up a Miami Herald newspaper with the headline blaring, "32 MILLION, MOSTLY WOMEN, BELIEVE IN ASTROLOGY AND LET IT RUN THEIR LIVES."

The Gallup Poll went on to state that, "One in four adults reads an astrology column regularly and believe their lives are governed by the position of the stars.  "The survey shows that almost as many church goers as non-church goers believe in astrology.  "One of the most surprising findings was that nearly eight in ten Americans (nine in ten under 30 years old) can name the sign under which they were born.

Wow, if you read my hub "A True-Life Miracle", you'll see that even I was frightened by the illness revealed to me through speaking in tongues coming to fruition in the woman I prayed for! It was confirmed this illness indeed started two years before it was called out by the Spirit in prayer. Praise God! Anyhow, we see that Pharoh had magicians who could do the same miracles as Moses before him, but of course, Moses' snake ate the other! AMEN. I love this hub, and your ministry! Thank you so much ~ I'm glad we found each other!

Drpastorcarlotta,

Thank you for once again shedding LIGHT on this most needed topic. It is very important to be able to discern if something is from the Lord.

Quite often what one thinks is harmless entertainment, such as any of the many examples of mechanical props you mentioned above really takes you in the opposite direction of the Lord. This is really inviting unfamiliar spirits.

There is no fellowship between darkness & LIGHT!

One must be Prayerful and discerning and led of the Spirit to be able to tell the difference.

It is important to know that GOD will NEVER lead you to do ANYTHING that goes against HIS WORD!

Thank You again for another GREAT HUB!

Blessings

Thank you DeBorrah K. Organs for your comment! Jesus tells us you will know them by their FRUITS!!!!! And if your studying the Bible, you will know what the FRUITS are! Beware of false prophets!! One of the problems today is that many Christians are unaware of where the dividing line is between the things of God and Satan's territory. Studying the Bible will be your weapon against the enemy!!!! He did not leave us defenssless! AMEN!

I have a question drpastorcarlotta. Do you feel that the spirit of divination exist in the church as well: speaking of just the wave of prophesying that takes place. I see so much of it in my church and I haven't seen any of them come to past. It really concerns me. I wonder if they really be hearing from God!

Hello Michael and blessings!!! Thank you for your comment!

The teachings of Jesus Christ are contained in the New Testament and constitute the further divine revelation that Moses promised when that new "Prophet" came. These writings are authoritative and combined with the Old Testament constitute "the revealed things" (Deuteronomy 29:29) that belong to us. This is the limit of authoritative, divine revelation. Prophecy in the New Testament is not adding to authoritative revelation, but exhorting from it and applying it. Just as the Old Testament prophets (except Moses) were not lawgivers but law-appliers, so are the "prophesying ones' in the New Testament. The other function of Old Testament prophets was to inerrantly predict the future of Israel and her Messiah. Since the One to whom the prophets pointed has come and spoken in full and final revelation, that role no longer exists. All the prophecies about the future that we are allowed are already contained in the Bible.

Using prophetic techniques to learn secret information or the future is divination. Today it is like it was in Jeremiah's day: "Then the Lord said to me, 'The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divinations, futility and the deception of their own minds" (Jeremiah 14:14). For example, the "prophet" Rick Joyner went into a trance, visited heaven, and talked to the apostle Paul. Here is what the departed "Paul" told Joyner: "If what I have written is used as a foundation, it will not be able to hold the weight of that which needs to be built on it ... You must see my teachings through the Lord's teachings, not try to understand Him from my perspective." (Joyner, The Final Quest, 133). Necromancy (communicating with the dead) is a technique for gaining secret information that is forbidden. When forbidden techniques are used, deception is gained. The information from Joyner's "Paul" is contradictory to the New Testament where Paul claims that his writings are foundational and authoritative. I do not deny that various practices from guided imagery, to EMDR (a technique used by some practitioners of "Theophostic Ministry" to help people find hidden memories and gain personal revelations from God), to contemplative prayer (which uses techniques to silence the mind in the hope of hearing God's voice), and many others "work." They do. I deny that they are from God. God has chosen the valid means by which we can hear from Him. Those means are revealed in the Bible. Going outside of God's ordained means is rebellion which constitutes divination. Samuel told Saul: "For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is an iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord He has also rejected you from being king" (I Samuel 15:23)

Using divination puts one in the realm of deceptive spirits. Paul predicted: "But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons " (I Timothy 4: 1).

Hi, Pstr. Carlotta,

The time you take to answer each comment is inspiring.

I was reading your interesting explaination, but it has opened further questions regarding the experience that Rick Joyner had. I do not know if he had initiated to seek such an experience of communicating w/ the Apostle Paul or if it was granted to him by the Lord, such as the visitation at the mount of Transfiguration when our Lord was speaking w/ Elijah and Moses. I know this is a touchy subject because the line is very fine to cross over the border. Other thoughts that come to my mind is when Jesus said that he who believes in Me will never die, are we really considered dead after we die? I am against initiating such practices as it is clear that God forbids it, but how about if it was granted w/out any forethought about it and the message actually doeas not take away, or brings confusion, but adds to ones faith in God?

Thank you

Hello Juan and Blessings!!! Are we really consider dead after we die? One of the last prophecies to be fulfilled before the return of Christ is...

1 Timothy 4:1 "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

As many are aware, today we see the majority of religions, including some Christians denominations are proclaiming that prayers to the dead are acceptable and should be done often if the dead are in fact considered a saint. Most teach that when a person dies they go to a spirit world where they can be contacted by us in prayer, or by a psychic or spirit guide in a séance. Some also teach re-incarnation where the soul goes from one life to the next forever in the hopes of cultivating enough wisdom to become perfect and therefore eternal in nature. Then there are those that teach the spirit of the deceased can actually haunt people if the deceased had been wronged in some major way in their mortal life. And finally, some teach that dead saints are allowed to come back from heaven, physically appear unto us and warn us of mortal dangers if we don't heed their Heavenly warnings and follow their advice. One of these denominations even go so far as to claim that the mother of Jesus Christ Himself appears from time to time to relay messages from heaven.

Before making a judgment about which church is correct, if any. Lets go to the Bible and see what the Bible has to say about where we go when we die. We're going to the Bible because these are churches and religions we are investigating. If we were investigating something someone told us about how to properly tune an engine we would go to the mechanics manual of that particular engine to find out if what was being said or done was correct and acceptable for that engine type. These are churches we're dealing with which claim to be teaching us what the Bible says about these topics, so lets see if they're right.

Psalms 6:3-5 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

The Psalmist is praying for deliverance to arrive before death here because he knows he won't have the ability to remember anything from the grave, nor can he give thanks from the grave.

Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

In Isaiah we see that king Hezekia was sick and Isaiah told him he was about to die. The king turned his face to the wall and prayed. In his prayer he says the following...

Isaiah 38:18-19, "For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth."

It appears rather plain here. The dead seem to be just that...DEAD! They can't remember, they can't thank anyone, they can't praise God, they can't think, they can't even dream because the verse says, "his thoughts perish." All their abilities have perished, "the dead know not any thing." Notice the last verse shared where it said, "...neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." The Bible is stating that the dead can in no way take part in anything under the sun. The (RSV) Bible actually translates the above last verse like this. "...they have no more for ever any share in all that is done under the sun." Pretty plain is it not?

If the Bible is saying the dead can't affect anything that happens here on earth. Why are people still praying to these dead saints when the dead can't hear them? Why do people still believe in hauntings, seances, apparitions etc??? They believe it because they never read in their Bibles the truth about these things. They just trusted their church leaders to tell them truthfully what the Bible says. So, who or what are these people seeing at these seances, hauntings and apparitions? Some churches believe that Mary the mother of Jesus is showing up in apparitions around the world. Many also believe that paintings or statues of Mary are actually bleeding real blood, or crying real tears. Does this mean Mary is not only alive and well, but now trapped inside statues made by men? How can this be? Does not the Word of God plainly state that the dead can in no way affect anything that happens here on this earth? If these apparitions aren't Mary, then who are they?

I'm sure you're wondering. "Just where do we go when we die?" Don't go running to get this answer from your preacher, teacher, friend, pastor, or priest. Just go back in the Bible to find out. It is were you should always go when you're in question. However if you do at times have to go to a person for answers, always verify it in the Word of God before making any final decisions! Don't trust me or any man! Go to God's Word for the final answer and you will never go wrong.

MUCH LOVE TO YOU JUAN!!!!

Hi, Pstr.Carlotta,

I just want to thank you for ministering to me, I must say the verses you mention about people that die really was an eye opener. I actually felt a deliverance take place in me over a 24 hr period. A new hunger for God and the Bible has been rebirth in me.

I have been thinking about going back to school to study counselling, I was wondering if you can help suggest an accreditted on-line distant learning Christian school that can equip me as a minister because there are so many out there making all kinds of claims and I'm just not sure. I appreciate your ministry, the name "Breal out" speaks for itself because that is what I have recieved as an impartation. Many thanks and be assured of my prayers.

In Christ's love,

Juan

This is great! There are just WAY too many "Christians" who have a Facebook app that posts their Daily Horoscope. I grew up in a nonChristian home where my mother was obsessed with everything divination. She followed horoscopes and everything else under the sun. She was depressed, confused and suicidal. Only when I was led to the Lord by wonderful friends, did I find JOY!
