What Is Spirituality
WELCOME TO Dr. Pastor Carlotta Boles Counseling Center, where I will explain what is Spirituality. Spirituality is different from religion. It has cognitive, experiential, and behavior aspects (search for meaning, purpose and truth in life; the beliefs and values by which a person lives. A feeling of hope, love connection, inner peace, comfort, and support! Spirituality has to do with individual"s intuition of being part of the universe, of being connected to all of life! Some find spirituality through religion or a person relationship with the divine.
Others find it through a connection to nature, through music and the arts, through a set of values or principals or through the quest for scientific truth. The essence of spirituality is the search to know our true selves, to discover the real nature of consciousness. This quest has been the foundation of all the great spiritual teachings, and the goal of all the great mystics. Throughout the history of humanity it has been said that the self we know -- the individual ego -- is a very limited form of identity.
Ignorant of our true selves we derive a false sense of identity from what we have, or what we do -- from our possessions, our role in the world, how others see us, etc. Because the world on which it is based is continually changing, this derived sense of identity is always under threat, and our attempts to maintain it are responsible for much of our "self-centered" behaviour. Behind this identity is a deeper identity, what is often called the "true self".
This can be thought of as the essence of consciousness. Although our thoughts, feelings and personality may vary considerably, the essence of mind remains the same. We are each very different people than we were twenty years ago, but still we feel the same sense of "I". This sense of "I-ness" is the same for everyone, and in that respect is something universal that we all share. When we discover this deeper sense of self we are freed from many of the fears that plague us unnecessarily. We discover a greater inner peace, an inner security that does not depend upon events or circumstances in the world around.
As a result we become less self-centered, less needy of the other's approval or recognition, less needy of collecting possessions and social status, and become happier, healthier and more loving people. In many spiritual teachings this is called "self-liberation". Most spiritual teachings also maintain that when one comes to know the true nature of consciousness, one also comes to know God. If God is the essence of the whole of creation, then God is the essence of every creature, and every person. This is why the search to discover the nature of one's own innermost essence is the search for God.
If you haven't accepted Christ as your Savior simply say in an audible voice, in all sincerity from the depths of your heart, "Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins and accept me as Your child. I accept You as my personal Savior and I promise to follow the instructions of Your Word from this day on. If I fail because I am human, please help pick me up so I can try again! Thank you, Jesus, for saving me from all my sins. AMEN."

I liked your hub and the description you gave. When I started my spiritual path I had allot of trouble speaking the word God and chose to use another term, like Divine presence or Divine Essence. And I continue to use this term. I'm in essence looking for my Divine presence (the God inside me) which is the same as looking for God. I don't see a difference. And using this term also bridges gaps for those who don't like dogma or religion and have no desire to be preached to. Many people are finding inner peace and living virtuous lives outside the influence of a church. It's a beautiful thing.
Thanks for posting this hub. It's refreshing to discuss a spiritual path without being preached to. I sometimes feel that people get so caught up in the detail of their religions that they forget about the message! Jewels mentions that she thinks of God as the 'Divine Presence', and I also tend to have trouble with the word 'God', and tend to think more abstractly in terms of a power for good, and of an ever present bright light that guides our path.
Beautifully expressed. Something I would like to add: When one is fully immersed in the spiritual reality you describe, it can be said that one has become a mystic - and the mystic "knows" there is only one being and that is God.
FANTASTIC hub You are a Blessing to many. The light shines in you. Your picture shines with the true light. For Reals.
Many have a hard time with this scenario.
I had a guy tell me the other day I was religious. I chuckled. My answer. I have a personal relationship with the Lord. This is Spiritual, Religion has doctrine or dogma they follow or add content to the Word of God. If you live a spiritual life Christ dwells in you. That is not saying Christ does not live in you if you belong to a church that has 'rules' to follow. One must be 'born again' to make heaven. Buddha will not get you to heaven, nor does he answer prayer. He is not alive, Christ is Alive in us when we make the decision he is Lord of our life.
God is amazing. I led my friend to the Lord that afternoon. Praise God.My friend is going to church with us this weekend. Keep up his work Dr. You are an inspiration to many. Hugs your friend
Human beings will always keep searching for something or some one greater than themselves. Each deligent searcher will find it.What s/he must do is to ensure that it promotes and produces righteouness. For in the long and short of it all one is following one of two paths righteouness or wickedness. The true essence of spirituallity is that we love God and we love others. If we cannot reach this conciousness then we have not found God , the devine presence, the essence or what ever we chose to call it, Devine etc. Going to a church just let one meet more people so one can practice this love that God requires of us. For in a church you meet all different types of personalities, It is the experiemental lab of devine love.
Like your hub ,will link it to a building I am trying to build Spiritual living now.Keep on doing what you are doing.
